No puppies at the Wienerville Ranch

WHY?
I stopped breeding Dachshunds. I went to some Dachshund rescue sites and saw soooo many Dachshunds needing homes. Beautiful, precious dogs of all ages. When I thought about breeding my bitch again I was sick with myself. How could I breed more Dachshunds when so many need loving homes.? I have gotten Dachshunds in the past that were not puppies (though not from rescue) and they
appreciated their new home. Puppies are not everything.
Older dogs can be just as fantastic and you don't go through
all the puppy mess. Many older dogs lost there owner through death
or they were put in a nursing home. Those poor little things.
How traumatic. Those dogs deserve to be loved and cared for the
rest of there lives! Many are abandoned as well. Very sad.

I HIGHLY reccommend that you rescue a Dachshund looking for a
loving, forever home. Here are some links to rescue groups.
Open your hearts and home to a needy Dachshund.

History - Definitive evidence of the  Dachshund as a breed isn't found
until the 16th century, when reference was made  to a "low crooked legged"
dog call a Little Burrow Dog, Dacksel, or Badger Dog.  the modern name
"Dachshund" means simply badger dog.  These tenacious huntes would
follow their quarry, enter its burrow, pull it out, and kill it.  The  Dachshund
has since found its real niche as a family pet, steadily rising in  popularity
to hold a place as one of the most popular hounds in America.

Temperament - Bold, curious, and always up  for adventure.  It likes to
hunt and dig, tracking by scent and going to ground  after game.  It is
independent but will join in its family's activities whenever  given a chance.
It is good with children in its own fmily, but some may snap at strange children.
Most are reserved with strangers.  Some bark.  Some miniatures are more
prone to be timid.

Upkeep - The Dachshund's exercise  requirements can be met with moderate
walks on leash and games in the yard.  It is amenable to city life or apartment
living, but it is still a hunter at heart  and enjoys forays into the wilds.

Size - Usually 16-32 pounds.
